Product Disclaimer: Legal and Ethical Implications of Misrepresenting a Service Dog
At Humble Dog, we take the role of service dogs and their handlers very seriously. Misrepresenting a pet as a service dog is not only unethical but can also be illegal. Service dogs are highly trained animals that assist individuals with disabilities, and their rights are protected under provincial and federal laws. Misuse of service dog vests can result in harm to those who truly rely on these animals and lead to stricter regulations that affect the disabled community.
Important:
- Service dogs are defined under Canadian law as animals specifically trained to assist with a disability, and they are granted public access rights.
- Therapy dogs and Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are not service dogs and do not have public access rights under Canadian law.
- Humble Dog does not sell service dog registrations, certifications, or IDs, as no legally recognized service dog registry exists in Canada.
To ensure that our vests are used responsibly and ethically, we require all customers to confirm that the dog they are purchasing for is a legitimate service dog or in training. By purchasing a service dog vest from us, you agree to our terms and conditions, which include confirming that you are not misrepresenting a pet as a service dog.
